Common Keyboard Problems

1. Sticky or Non-Working Keys

The cause is often dust, dirt, or liquid that has gotten under the keys. Try cleaning the keyboard with compressed air or a special brush. For mechanical keyboards, you can carefully remove the keys and clean the switches.

2. Keys Respond with Delay

The problem may be related to both mechanism wear and software settings. Check the repeat rate settings in your operating system (response) and disable unnecessary auto-input functions.

3. Repeated Character Input

The key starts typing multiple characters with a single press. This is most often a mechanical problem with the key contacts, requiring either cleaning or switch replacement.

4. No Response to Some Key Combinations

Some keyboards have limitations on the number of simultaneously pressed keys (N-key rollover). This is especially important for gamers and fast typing.

Tip:

Regular preventive cleaning of your keyboard can significantly extend its lifespan and prevent many functionality issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I test my keyboard?

It is recommended to test your keyboard approximately once every 3-6 months with normal use. With intensive use (for example, by gamers or programmers), testing should be done more frequently – once every 1-2 months.

Can I use the test for a laptop keyboard?

Yes, our test is equally effective for both external keyboards and built-in laptop keyboards. It will help identify problem keys regardless of the device type.

What should I do if some keys are not detected by the test?

If the test does not respond to certain key presses, the following causes are possible: 1) the key is physically defective; 2) there is a problem with the keyboard driver; 3) specific operating system settings. Try restarting your computer, updating keyboard drivers, or testing the keyboard on another device.

Will the test help identify software issues with the keyboard?

Our test is primarily designed to identify hardware issues with the keyboard. However, if keys do not respond or work incorrectly in all applications, this may also indicate software problems. In this case, we recommend checking keyboard settings in the operating system and updating drivers.

Is keyboard test data saved?

Yes, test results can be saved in your browser's local storage by clicking the "Save Results" button. The history of up to 5 recent tests will be available in the "Test History" section. The data is not sent to our servers and remains only on your device.
